I love fan films, since fans tend to stay true to the subject matter, and they don’t muck it up with visions of grandeur. Sometimes keeping it simple is the best way, and this Tomb Raider/Lara Croft fan film fits the bill. It’s still a bit cheesy, but, it’s a helluva lot better than Angelina’s rendition about a decade or so ago.

I met these guys at the AOF Fest in Monrovia, CA this year. Actually, I saw their film first, in an empty theater with two of my best friends. It had accidentally been scheduled on the wrong day at the wrong time, but we happened to be in the right place at the right time. We were completely blown away watching this on the big screen. We had no lead up, no “FAN FILM” disclaimer, so it wasn’t until about halfway through that we shouted “THIS IS TOMB RAIDER!” and it suddenly became even more awesome. Anyway, we ran and grabbed a schedule and saw that it was scheduled to play again the next day, and that the cast and crew would be there. They had no idea the film had already played, but were thrilled we had come to see the film again because we had loved it so much. They were a great bunch of filmmakers and it was awesome hearing about their experiences making the film. If you haven’t seen this yet, do yourself a favor and watch it! They won a few awards for it, and in my opinion got snubbed for best action short. But watch it.
