Lara Croft Fan Film

I love fan films, since fans tend to stay true to the subject matter, and they don’t muck it up with visions of grandeur.  Sometimes keeping it simple is the best way, and this Tomb Raider/Lara Croft fan film fits the bill.  It’s still a bit cheesy, but, it’s a helluva lot better than Angelina’s rendition about a decade or so ago.

Earworm: Ylvis – Massachusetts

From the people that asked a now nagging question on what the fox says, come’s um, an advertisement for the state of Massachusetts.  Just watch it and enjoy.  I did get confused with this one, and, well, you might be too.  Ylvis is making a big splash here.  Let’s see how long they can ride the rave.

Earworm: Katy Perry – Hot N Cold

An old favorite, since they’ve been playing her new single ‘Roar’, it sort of brought me back 5 years ago when this song was her big hit (OMG it’s been five years already?!).  I sort of have an attachment to this song, since at the time, I was going through some relationship woes, and I saw myself as the guy that she was talking about.  Anyway, here’s the video.  Enjoy!

HTC One – Verizon Edition

HTC One Verizon Edition

HTC One Verizon Edition

ONE phone to rule them all, OK, not really, but it sure can make an argument for it.

The following are just my thoughts on this phone, it is not a full technical review highlighting it’s feature set.  It’s just an overview of my personal experience on my new toy. Phonescoop, Engadget, etc., has full reviews of the One, so check them out for a full fledged technical look at this device.

As a birthday gift to myself, I recently purchased HTC‘s current flagship smartphone, the One, and as after spending about a week or so with it, I can safely say it is the best smartphone I have owned/used.

Sure that statement can be made every time a new device comes out, but with my last 2 smartphones being lackluster at best, It can’t be claimed all the time.  Let’s take a closer look at why I think HTC’s One is quite the beast that it is. I know a lot has been said about this phone already, as it’s been out since April of this year.  BUT VZW just got around to releasing it.

Team Four Star Dragon Ball Z Parodies

I first saw Dragon Ball Z right around my 2nd year of HS.  Original with sub-titles.  I was quite ecstatic when I found out they were showing it very early in the AM on some channel I cannot remember, but was utterly disappointed when I heard the English dubs.  Suffice to say, I stuck to watching my old VHS copies with the sub-titles and soon pretty much grew out of it.  DBZ has since made a pretty good run in the US, with the shows being brought on to Cartoon Network, video games coming out for various systems, and then DVD‘s and Blu-Rays.  I was happy w/ the disc versions, since I can switch to Japanese with subs.  Anyway, my cousin brought Team Four Star to my attention not too long ago, it’s an abridged version of the shows, but, they re-did the dubs, and added a ton of humor.  IT IS one of THE funniest things I have watched.  If you like DBZ, I highly suggest you check them out.  They currently have 5 seasons in I think.

Earworm: “Flaws” by Bastille

You all know my weak heart for indie rock.

And we all know how much I love the UK. And having recently rediscovered Bastille through YouTube of all places, I figured I’d share this with you all.

I’ve had Bastille’s debut album Bad Blood sitting in my music folder for the longest time, my friends had recommended them to me and I downloaded their album without even thinking about if I would like their music or not. This is one of the greatest leaps of faith ever, because lo and behold, I love their music. They’re a high quality four man group, and Dan Smith’s vocals definitely throw it over the edge.

And his hair? DAMN HIS HAIR IS AWESOME. (This lil bit about hair is a little joke at The Big Cheese and my other cousins who mock me and my “One Direction” hair. By the way, my gravitar is inaccurate to my face, now. I should change that.)

Anyway.

Bastille is great, listen to the entire album Bad Blood. Look up their acoustic sessions on YouTube. Find their Abbey Road sessions, too. It’s incredible. The violins and the vocals it’s just heavenly.

Earworm: Foolish Games – Jewel

I recently listened to Jewel’s greatest hits album, and it sort of brought back memories of when she was really big back in the 90’s.  Yes, it’s not the typical music I listen to these day’s, but back then, I was still sort of discovering anything outside of the top pop hits that were being played on the radio.  I didn’t get a say to what music was being played in the car, and I didn’t really care much for music outside of the car back then.  Anyway, Jewel was probably one of my first musical crushes.  She’s just so beautiful, and such a powerful voice.  Anyway, here’s one of my all time favorite songs of hers.

Here’s also a nice  version that is found on the greatest hits album, it’s a duet with Kelly Clarkson.  I really enjoyed this one as well.

Join Spotify!

I know, I know. Pandora has been your go to. Or maybe you just pirate your music. Possibly you just use YouTube for all of it.

Well now is the time to stop that. Ever wonder how I come up with such obscure songs for my Earworms? Well you shouldn’t, because I try my best to inform you lot of how I came across the songs. Regardless, the predominant culprit is Spotify. (more…)

Reflections of Facebook

I challenged myself. I surprised all my peers by actually killing myself off of a social network.

Most people that know me would take it upon themselves to call me a social media buff, with an account for nearly everything. A Facebook, a Tumblr (vpshit.tumblr.com), a Twitter (@thisguypatrick), an Instagram (@thisguypatrick), a GetGlue, a Foursquare, Snapchat, a personal Blogger, a Google+, an AIM  (but let’s not kid ourselves here, no one uses that shit anymore), and this currently stagnant WordPress.

Just last week, however, I deactivated my Facebook. I wanted to take time away from the computer, from looking at my phone, from making stupid status updates irrelevant to nearly all of my friends list. And for a bit it worked, barely.

While I no longer automatically click the Facebook bookmark as soon as I open Google Chrome, I do find myself more inclined to open YouTube, Google Music, Twitter, and Tumblr.

Essentially, by taking myself off of one social network, I’ve been able to dedicate more time to other things that require my attention to be on my laptop. And with finals on the way, this does not seem good for me.

I will keep you updated on this.
