Missed opportunities

Don’t you just hate it when you’re waiting for that right moment, or that right subject, but you just missed it by a split second.  It happened to me recently, while waiting for some pelicans to face me, or fly somewhat toward me, I so happen to spot a sea hawk, fly overhead coming in from the opposite direction.

I was lucky enough to be able to spot it right away once I brought my camera up, but it was too little too late.  It had lunch on it’s claws too.

I did get the pelicans though, but that will come on a separate post.  So, has anyone else had this sort of missed chance at getting a great shot? Comment below and tell us your story.

Shooting Terns (With a Nikon D5)

So on a recent trip the Outer Banks in North Carolina, I got the chance to do some bird photography.  Having finally received my Nikon D5 after a month and a week long wait (more on that later), I was excited to be able to getting myself re-acquainted with Nikon’s flagship DSLR body.  I rented Nikon’s 2x Tele-converter, and mounted my Nikkor 70-200mm VR II (which effectively makes it a 140-400mm F/5.6) and set out capture some birds on the beach.

Below is an example of 3 shots I’ve been able to edit so far.  More to follow once I get around to editing them more, and more on my thoughts on my real first try at action bird photography.

Flickr Random Photo of the Day – Sunrise

It’s been a week since I was out enjoying the waves and the sun and I haven’t been able to adjust back to normalcy.  Having said that, it pains me to look at my vacation photos since I wished I was still there.  I did happen to open up Lightroom though and I just so happen to close it at one particular sunrise session I did.  One of the shots below, which I am not too crazy on, but I am sharing with y’all anyway.  More from this set to come soon!

Sunrise

Yes, it’s not tack, and somehow I managed to unsettle this 1.3 second exposure.

I’m Back!

Yes, I was quiet for a few days enjoying the grey and rainy skies of the Outerbanks in North Carolina (South Shores to be exact).  I had my laptop, and I did post one Earworm while I was down there, but I just couldn’t be bothered.  In any case, let me get settled in, and hopefully, will proceed to our regularly blog.

I leave you with a classic video to celebrate my return

Earworm: Creep – TLC

I’m going to keep it short and sweet.  So, today, myself, and my GF, made our way down to the Outer Banks in North Carolina. It’s normally a 7 hour trip with no hitches, but, sadly, it took us 10 hours.  Traffic pretty much from the start of Virginia all the way down to North Carolina.  In any case, TLC’s song Creep came on SiriusXM, as we were creeping in traffic, and my GF made a comment, stating that, ‘yeah, that’s us, we’re creeping our way down.

I’ve been sort of humming it in and out through out the day ever since.
