Snappy Facts:

• Founded in 1944, Kia Motors Corporation is Korea’s second-largest automobile manufacturer, behind Hyundai Motor Company.
• In 1997, during the Asian financial crisis, Kia declared banckruptcy.  In 1998 Hyundai Motor Company acquired 51% of Kia, outbidding Ford Motor Company.  Today, Hyundai owns a little more than one-third of Kia.
• Peter Schreyer, the former chief designer for Audi and Volkswagen AG, was hired by Kia in 2006.  Mr. Schreyer is Kia’s top design officer.  In 2013, Mr. Schreyer became the design chief for both Kia and Hyundai.
