Put Your Grandma In An MGS Game

image

OK,  so not everyone would put their grandmother in an MGS  game. but with this Kinect Rig you could if you wanted to. I would! She could be in some cutscenes talking to Big Boss, nagging him during dangerous missions via Codec.

Ari Shapiro of the Institute for Creative Technologies at USC thinks doing such things Is possible. He rigged a Kinect to his 3D rendering software and had an associate stand and be captured from all sides, rendering a damn near identical likeness of him. He then fused the avatars to a 3D skeleton with preprogrammed movements, and the result is a cyberspace version of himself jumping, kicking, and downward punching as if he were literally living and breathing on the screen. Check out the link below for the video. It’s as if TRON happened in real life, only without all the neon spandex.

This could very well prove to be an invaluable piece of tech over the next 5 to 10 years of this now current generation of gaming consoles. We could see realistic 3D renders of ourselves in a PS4 or XB1 game sooner than we think. And grandma can duck behind corners or cardboard boxes while snacking on a ration.

The Last Days Of FOXHOUND (reissue 009 – All Psychoed Up)

[The Last Days of FOXHOUND is a fan made comic that I stumbled upon a few years ago while perusing the Internetz as an MGS fan. This strip, created by a fellow MGS fan named Chris Douchette, ran this comic from 2003-2008. I was lucky enough to run into all 500 completed pages and wanted to share them with all of you readers. I’ll try to reiterate each and every consecutive page as time goes on. Most of the humor stems from the going on throughout the MGS series, so those who aren’t too familiar may find themselves slightly lost. My solution: play the MGS games. You guys wouldn’t be here anyways if you haven’t at least played MGS1. Anywho, enjoy!]

Dong Nguyen Follows Through, ‘Flappy Bird’ Removed From the App Store | Touch Arcade

image

Say it ain’t so! Well it looks like Flappy Bird has been taken down from Google Play and the iOS AppStore forever. It was fun while it lasted. Those of you who havent played and want a taste of the game will have to find other means to do so. Ces’t la vie.

Game Informer Gives Their MGSV Playthrough Impressions

image

Game Informer is getting the ball rolling on their MGSV Ground Zeroes scoop. Tim Turi and Dan Ryckert of Game Informer took a trip to Japan where they got to spend a few hours with the near final build of MGSV GZ and gave their first impressions in video format. They talk at length about how relatively short the main campaign is, touched on the price of the game to the consumers, and even compared it to MGS2’s Tanker Mission.

image

They also bring up some points about MGS Peace Walker, but nothing too spoiler filled. But if you are a bit apprehensive you can skip those parts. I always seem to stress this when PW comes up, but players who haven’t played through it yet will definitely benefit from doing so because it is directly tied to Ground Zeroes. Though the GI guys say that gamers new to MGS that will start with MGSV won’t get too lost in translation. I still say play Peace Walker because it’s just that awesome. Plus, aside from PSP, it’s on the Vita as well as for PS3 and 360, so there are no excuses.

image

The video also talks about the Side Ops included in the game. You’ll also see bits and pieces of gameplay from none other than Kojima himself. The clip altogether is about 15 minutes so it’s a good watch. Also great is the fact that they, Tim and Dan, express great enthusiasm toward the game. These two are true gamers like us and it shows by their shared experiences and occasional chuckles.

The Phantom Pain, which at this point is still sadly a ways off, is also talked about throughout the video. All I can say is, LUCKY! They got to try it before it releases this March 18th for all viable consoles. I’ll be waiting with baited breath, haha. Expect more news as it happens. Till then…

Stay classy…

Happy Birthday Day To Cheesecake!

image

Happy Birthday, bud. In order to Commemorate your day I’ve decided to give you the gift of three choices.

1. You can actually try to bake your own Cheesecake.

2. You can decide to take your anger and frustration out in case you burn your cheesecake on Squishy Bird.

3. You can do both at the same time: bake while killing that Fucking feathered Bastard from Flappy Bird.

Anyways, here’s to you!

Maybe I’ll Wait Till MGSV DEFINITIVE EDITION Comes Out Instead

image

So it’s come to my attention that MGSV Ground Zeroes (prologue to MGSV The Phantom Pain) main mission will take all of 2ish hours to complete. Game Informer reiterated to Kotaku that they got their hands on a close to final build of Ground Zeroes and, aside from side missions and the exclusive DLC, GZ only took 2 hours to complete. As was stated by Game Informer:

“Judged just by the core story mission, Ground Zeroes is short. We completed it in just less than two hours.”

So barring extras, the prologue seems to be shorter that expected. Well I mean, it IS a prologue, which seems reminiscent of the Tanker chapter in MGS 2. But to it’s credit it was first a free demo which game with a full copy of Zone Of The Enders (ZOE). Nobody pays for a demo version of a game, hence Demo. But Konami are selling this short ride for $30 per disc, $20 for the digital versions, across the board. Kojima has stated that since The Phantom Pain was taking a bit of time to develop that he didn’t want his fans to wait too long, which is why he decided to split the game in two parts, to which GZ was born. Though, as disheartening as this may be, it could be the raddest 2 hours of our lives. There’s only one way to really judge for ourselves.

MGSV Ground Zeroes drops March 18, 2014 for PS4, PS3, XB1, and 360. Whether or not my wishful Definitive Edition happens or not remains to be seen. Till then I will most likely be snatching this up around release.
