MGSV: GZ – A Gameplay Convo Between Nekked Snake & Big Cheese

image

So last night was another gameplay session with MGSV: Ground Zeroes. This time I got Big Cheese in on the action. We were having a conversation over messaging platforms while in gameplay mode. Me on my Mac while playing GZ (PS3), and Big Cheese on his PC also while playing (PS4). This is an off the cuff account of what transpired during last night’s session. We talk about the companion app, throwing guards off cliffs, crazy gltches, and other nonsense. Also, this was a late session that lasted another number of hours into the wee ours of the night (3AM). So we may sound like 30 Somethings regressing back into our old high school ways. So forgive the unintentional grammatical ineptitude. Enjoy!

[SELF APPOINTED MISSION: TO RECRUIT (KIDNAP) ALL GUARDS INCLUDING THE POWS AND PAZ]

Nekked Snake: ima try to kidnap, haha

Big Cheese: how u kidnap

oh yeah

throw them in the chopper

im gonna try that now too

Nekked Snake: haha

time to fire up the app

Big Cheese: lol

kidnapped 3 so far now

Nekked Snake: try to get that companion app to work and take SCREEN TRANSFERS

[Obviously I love this app]

image

Big Cheese: um

i have a share button

just tagged u

lol

Nekked Snake: word that’s true, haha

i LOVE calling chopper from app. so easy

u can see the chopper on the device flying in

i also got 3 so far

image

Big Cheese: fuck had to kill 3

Nekked Snake: chopper was getting shot at earlier but i didn’t get spotted

fail

use FLARE NADES if u can’t get to a specific LZ

Big Cheese: word

Nekked Snake: fuck i only have 4 flares…

dope thing about using app to call chopper. i can run in game while doing it on my phone, haha

so im extracting while chopper is coming

2 birds 1 stone

Big Cheese: i usually call him right before i run back

im about to get the 4th POW

Nekked Snake: i carry at least 1 guard in case the other one wakes i just CHUCK the one im carrying at them haha

Big Cheese: lol

R1 right

Nekked Snake: yesssir

you’d appreciate this way more if u played MGS3, PO, and PW.. cuz GZ expands on everything.. loving this

in PW there are Fulton balloons u can just hook to POWs or guards

TPP supposedly will have them too

Big Cheese: R1 is BINOS

R2 for me

Nekked Snake: you’re on ps4 so

could be diff

for me it’s R1

Big Cheese: did u change ur controls?

Nekked Snake: btw i use my NVG to bolster TAGGING

nope

I’m using ACTION TYPE A

just found out that if your chopper leaves u can call it back asap by placing target marker

Big Cheese: whats ur L2?

Nekked Snake: L2 is radio for me

Big Cheese: thats L1 for me

L2 is aim

Nekked Snake: im using default controls

Big Cheese: R2 is throw

R1 is BINO

same here

Nekked Snake: yuck L2 aim?

R2 is also binos for me

Big Cheese: uploading a clip of me tossing a guy off a cliff lol

Nekked Snake: haha it’s fun right???

Big Cheese: shared it on ur timeline

Nekked Snake: kidnapped like 7 guards so far.. i really have to choose another LZ

nice

ima go to the prison camp and tag more guards

gonna leave the POWs for now

cuz after i get all the guards i can do whatever the fuck i want!

Big Cheese: this is fun

just picking them off one by one

running out of darts

Nekked Snake: i have 6 darts left

gotta find the storage trailer

Big Cheese: got lucky w/ a KO’ed one

Nekked Snake: the last one woke up when i went to get another guard so i threw the one on my back into him cuz he was shooting the chopper.. i love this game

instant KO!

Yo try to Penguin dive off the search tower

Big Cheese: thats it for now time for InFamous: Second Son

(At this point in time I’m (Nekked Snake) the only one still talking about Ground Zeroes)

Nekked Snake: it’s funny

cuz snake will dive then fall normal but land prone

Big Cheese: cool

Nekked Snake: two guards got shot by my chopper haha

i got caught 3 times but still alive!

i lost a guard i was carrying over my shoulder while running to an LZ cuz i was getting shot at, slipped off the side of the cliff and caught myself but dropped the guard into the ocean hahaha

4 POWs and 2 guards to kidnap

image

Big Cheese: lol

Nekked Snake: i should throw chico into the ocean hahaha

oh shit cool

Big Cheese: lol

did u ?

Nekked Snake: nono, chill, hahaha

probably would result in a TIME PARADOX haha

so when u find chico he gives u a tape i the cutscene right? well if u skip the scene, and put chico in the chopper u still get the tape but a diff shorter cutscene where the tape falls out of chico’s pkt and out of the chopper.

snake then finds it

oh wow..

here’s a glitch for u…

when i tranqed some guards they disappeared

Big Cheese: lol

Nekked Snake: i noticed cuz im using my NVGs

but then after running back to their location they reappeared

crazy

image

im out of darts.. fuck

DUDE

i can put dead bodies in the chopper! haha

image

Big Cheese: lol

Nekked Snake: cannot wait what either Kaz will say in GZ or TPP..if anything

hahaha

another dead body

First XOF patch!

image

here another glitch: i put another guard in the chopper after interrogating him, but when i was running around Kaz called me telling me how to get answers from the guard.. weird

appears to be only 1 guard on my map left.. although that could be just cuz i haven’t tagged anyone lately

one of the turrets are smoking.. i guess my chopper took it out earlier

Big Cheese: theres’ spose to be 40

Nekked Snake: yep

i cleared out most of them on the outside

im dealing with 3 more

then gonna go downstairs to paz

also, another dead body

these bastards wake up too fast from cqc

i need darts

i have 2 guards KOed and one still standing guard but super far so im picking up and throwing them like skipping stones to get closer to the 3rd one, KO him, then call chopper

Big Cheese: Haha

Nekked Snake: i keep having to throw one into the other to keep them KOed haha

shit the 3rd one is behind a door

got the fucker

WTF the 3rd one disappeared!!

yet another glitch wow

Big Cheese: lol

Nekked Snake: fuck it chopper time

the 3rd KOed guard just reappeared in the distance haha

WTF the other 2 disappeared now

there’s no one there now but my chopper getting shot at by imaginary bullets

Big Cheese: lol

Nekked Snake: just found a motherfucker in a tower. i think that’s who spotted me

damn it, haha

just restarted checkpoint cuz chico died in the chopper WTF

Big Cheese: I wonder if I can recreate those glitches

Nekked Snake: maybe u can

oh shit since i restarted check point i have darts, sweet

Big Cheese: Nice

Nekked Snake: oh wow, found an RPG

image

wtf? it’s like the game can’t handle more than 3 guards down or something..

3 guards were Z’ed. i darted a 4th. carried to the 3 guards, and only see 2.. wow bro, hahaha

definitely NOT like a typical MGS game where i can have an assload of guards Z’ed in one screen

ok now i z’ed 2 more

let’s see what happens

OMG!!

HAHAHA

Big Cheese: Hm article looming?

Happened again?

Nekked Snake: i carried one of them to the 4 guards and 2 disappear!!

wow!

wow dude wow..

so i tried running toward camera with the guards BEHIND me to see what would happen to the bodies

they would fade in and out as i read the other z’ed guard.. this is hilarious!

yes another looming article

This time they all appeared since I decided to walk TOWARD camera

gonna try to get a chopper in since the guard at the watch tower is z’ed

they fade in and out man this is nuts

kinda breaks the game a bit

cuz if a guard is invisible u can’t see when they wake up,

then you’re fucking busted

seems the game cannot handle 3 downed guards at the same time

Big Cheese: Gonna try tomorrow anyway I’m out

L8r

Nekked Snake: peace

with the exception of maybe 3 guards i kidnapped all of them + the POWs. and rescued Paz. score!

RANK C. I will have to do things faster best time. At least I didn’t kill anyone!

Looking forward to yet another Playthrough with another self appointed goal. Check us out next time!

MGSV:GZ – These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things

image

I’ve been playing Ground Zeroes here and there since I be gotten it day one. So far I’ve beaten the Main Mission a few times with a RANK D, then tonight a RANK C. Now I’m messing with the mechanics of such things as the CQC portion of gameplay.  I found a pretty nifty party trick. When in the Pause menu there’s a SCREEN TRANSFER option. I wondered what this was when I first saw it. I tried it while synced to my app. It actually let me take screen grabs during gameplay while paused and lets me transfer the saved image to either my device or to a Twitter account, which I’d use if I had one myself. As evidenced by my header above its a pretty neat feature, though the quality leaves something to be desired it’s pretty low res. Here are other shots during my last exploit:

image

On my last Playthrough I unlocked an SMG to be used at the beginning of the game. I was walking around at the top of the ridge expecting it to already be in my inventory when I actually ran into the weapon box behind a Bush.

image

The strange thing is since its a Submachine Gun, the tranq gun can only be swapped out to replace it with the SMG. I tried to switch it with my suppressed assault rifle but no go. Maybe I will get to unlock a suppressed sniper rifle with tranq darts. We shall see. I’ve yet to try out the day missions so I will report back my findings at a later date.

MGSV:GZ – Play It Again, Snake

image

My time with the MGSV:GZ app has certainly been substantial since Ground Zeroes has released. I’ve been going mode to mode, discovering some really useful options, both for Ground Zeroes and in-app. This time around I’ve worked my way down to the Cassette Tapes. Just as you would in the game, the app is able to, while synced, access the Tapes that that have been unlocked after the first completion of the Main Mission. Available are Chico’s tapes, Mission Briefings, Peace Walker songs, and Paz’s Diary Tapes.

image

These tapes are only accessible as I mentioned after first completion of the Main Mission, but Ground Zeroes is not required to be running to actually listen to these tapes. As long as you have WiFi access you can tap into the app server and listen to the tapes on your device as you would with say, you Sony Walkman. Pop in your ear buds for that added 80’s effect.

image

I’ve been trying to convince some fellow MGSers to use this app as it really does add another dimension to the game. There are tons of different ways to execute gameplay and complete the available missions. And if I hadn’t said this already, every subsequent Playthrough and completion of the missions helps unlock elements in your Mother Base. Why not make it all the more viable with the trusty app?  It’s a great advantage I’m doing my best to take.

HAR HAR HAR: MGSV: Ground Zeroes ‘Half Assed Review’

[Let’s face it. Time is just something not a lot of us have on our side. Especially when it comes to gaming. It’s difficult to squeeze in a nice chunk of time to properly give a typical review, but Something is better than nothing. AMIRITE?? This is where HAR HAR HAR comes in. Or rather, “Half Assed Reviews.” It’s our version of a review, only, um, Half Assed. Enjoy!]

image

I Finally got a chance to play Ground Zeroes last Friday night. It is, without a doubt, an amazing game! The sights, the sounds, and the virtual smells are awesome. The game is so atmospheric. And honestly those people who complained of a short two hour “demo” should get their heads out of their asses. Below is my play by play as I sulk, slump, and sneak through Camp Omega. This transcript is in bullet point format, cuz HAR (Half Assed Review), so I might sound like a dork. Enjoy.

[Played on my PS3 for about 4-5 hours on first Playthrough]

A Quicky Of Me Playing MGS: Peace Walker

Here’s me doing a really REALLY quick bootleg capture of Peace Walker. I miss knocking on walls as misdirection to fool these guards. Also, the CQC in PW is one of the post intuitive systems in any MGS thus far, predating Ground Zeroes. PW is easily one of the best MGS games to have been made. I have over 100+hrs accrued since it’s release in 2010 and I STILL haven’t finished it 100%! Here’s a YouTube user’s clip of Consecutive CQC. For me it’s a smoother seqience, transitioning from one soldier to the next.

The Consecutive CQC in GZ is cool but seems too quick-cut and shaky-cam. Not a complaint by any means, just a mere observation. I’ll put up a quicky of Portable Ops next time to show you the mechanics and how it is essentially MGS3 for PSP.

MGSV:GZ – There’s An App For That

image

Continuing my usage of the Ground Zeroes app I decided to give iDroid mode a second go. As it turns out, the app will only sync if my console (in this case my PS3) is on WiFi, which it is due to the router being in the bedroom while my Slim sits in the living room. Syncage (is that a word?) is as easy as a few quick taps on the screen which takes me to my own personal iDroid HUD. What you’d see in-game is exactly what you get in-app.

MGSV:GZ Mothershutyourmouth!

image

So I’ve been using the MGSV:GZ app that’s been provided to use through the Apple Appstore and Google Play since Ground Zeroes’ release. I have to say, at first I was a bit confused about how to use it. I started messing with it a bit more and now got the hang of management. Kinda. It’s similar to Peace Walker’s Mother Base management with some differences. (more…)

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops IS FUCKING CANON, OK?!

image

OK, I  totally apologize for the headline of this article. I get that a lot of MGS fans just may not agree to how I feel about Portable Ops (PO) being a part of the MGS canon. Good thing this is just an opinion of mine. Though it IS an opinion froth with facts.

The clip above is an IGN review of PO, stating the various pros and cons of this Big Boss game, such as this being the first full blown MGS title with actual stealth elements, and not just turn based fare, as with the previous two Acid games. I’ve played some of both Acids too, mind you, and they’re great. I just like the feeling of actually controlling Snake during missions, and sneaking around, being, well Snake!

There’s a lot of controversy among fans stating that PO isn’t a canon game because it’s 1) a handheld game, 2) it wasn’t considered part of the Legacy Collection that just came out recently, 3) Miller tells Snake in Peace Walker (PW) that he’s glad they’re “leaving all that crap in San Heironymo behind“, and 4) during a TWITCH interview with Geoff Keighley, Kojima was asked some fan questions, one of which asked how Hideo felt about the situation with Portable Ops and whether or not this game was considered canon to the MGS progenitor, himself. The interview can be found here. Or you can just watch the whole thing below. Skip to the 43:30 mark. Hideo considers PO mostly canon, though some of the details are “a bit off.” Basically, to save himself and his fans a lot grief, he explains that the MGS games he considers canon are those labeled with “A HIDEO KOJIMA GAME” whereas the game without that tagline are just spinoffs. I still don’t buy it, but that’s just me.

There are even some MGS fan sites which contain ample content about this matter such as The Snake Soup. There is one article which I find very interesting to say the least, and really go in to extreme detail to hold up some substantial truth as to why PO should be considered canon in the first place. Metal Gear Wiki elaborate on the plot of  PO as well, explaining important details such as Gene (the main antagonist in PO) giving Naked Snake (Big Boss) the idea for Outer Heaven in the first place, only Gene called it Army’s Heaven. Another big thing to note is that Snake also acquired the funds (the Philosophers Legacy) from Gene to build Outer Heaven in the first place.

OK, so there are some retcons like Sokolov still being alive in PO rather than thought to have been killed by Volgin in MGS3, or the fact that Big Boss new Gray Fox aka Frank Jaeger whose codename in PO is Null. But then these retcons wouldn’t be validated had Portable Ops not been canon. After all, isn’t a retcon the essence of canonicity in any story in the first place? It’s not a spinoff like the Acids or even Ghost Babel, which all have self contains stories and plots. No, Portable Ops is canon, boys and girls.

And like I said, some people will still feel that PO, for all intents and purposes, is not canon because it doesn’t that KOJIMA stamp of approval, that he was just a producer behind the scenes. Perhaps some of this is true, but only 1/3rd. The other remaining 2/3rds are legit. And quite honestly, all arguments aside, Portable Ops is a pretty great MGS game. Sneaking, rations, boss battles WITH ACTUAL PEOPLE, a couple of Metal Gears. PO has it all. And let’s get real here, Peace Walker wouldn’t be what it is today without Portable Ops. Recruiting, comradeship, base building, acquiring special soldiers. All that started with PO. And for those not in the know, PO actually had a living breathing METAL GEAR ONLINE (MGO) packed and ready to go with the game. PW doesn’t have that. It’s got CO-OP and AD-HOC capabilities (PSP), which is still pretty awesome because I’ve played, but never had a dedicated Online Multiplayer on day one. So for those who scoff at Portable Ops, just know that without Portable Ops, Peace Walker, and dare I say this because it’s the truth, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes (at least) wouldn’t exist in it’s current form today. Just saying.

Hideo Kojima Plays Favorites

People who have at least two or more children never claim to have a favorite. Mommy and Daddy always say that they love their kids equally, so as to not make one of them feel inadequate at some level. Not so with Hideo Kojima, the father of the Metal Gear franchise, or more specifically, all the characters who inhabit that world. In his interview with IGN he sits down and talks about a handful of his favorite characters, most of which seem to be from Metal Gear Solid 1. It’s an interesting interview to say the least. Rarely do we see Mr. Kojima talk so much about characters he holds near and dear to his heart, aside from Snake, that is. Enjoy
