Hot Toys MGR Raiden Lets It RIPPP!

image

Hot Toys has done it again, boys and girls. They’ve managed to shrink another pseudo normal human sized character from a video game into 1:6th scale and venture into the Uncanny Valley.

This is a good thing though! I love Hot Toys figures and the artists always seem to get it just right. This MGR Raiden figure looks legit. It’s as if he walked right thru my flat screen tv and into real life. The description on their Facebook page is as follows:

The Metal Gear franchise has been a revolutionary series in the gaming world. One of the series’ protagonists, Raiden, has gained widespread popularity since his transformation into a cybernetic ninja. Last year, Konami has released Metal Gear Rising: Revengenace and let players take control of this amazing sword-wielding hero. Now Hot Toys is proud to introduce the 1/6th scale Raiden 12.5-inch Collectible Figure from this action-packed video game!

The collectible figure is specially crafted based on the image of Raiden in custom cyborg body from the game featuring a newly developed head sculpt, meticulously constructed body, and detailed weapons. Fans of Raiden don’t miss out on this cool collectible figure!

Toy Haven describes the figure to include the following items:

Hot Toys Video Game Masterpiece Series VGM17 Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance 1/6th scale Raiden Collectible Figure specially features: Authentic and detailed fully realized likeness of Raiden with left eye bandage in Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Video game-accurate facial expression with detailed skin texture. Newly sculpted body (Approximately 32 cm tall) with over 30 points of articulations. Real-like light blonde hair sculpture. Four (4) pairs of interchangeable palms including: One (1) pair of fists, One (1) pair of palms for holding gun, One (1) pair of palms for holding blade, One (1) pair of posing palms, One (1) interchangeable foot for holding blade. Each piece of head sculpt is specially hand-painted.

Here are some great pics typical of Hot Toys style:

One thing I took notice here among the accessories included with Raiden is the same assault rifle Big Boss uses in Ground Zeroes. This is also the same gun Big Boss gives Raiden in the exclusive DLC for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One titled “Jamais Vu.” Could this be a huge hint that Hot Toys will release their own Ground Zeroes Big Boss? Lord, I hope so!

Hot Toys is known for the quality of work in all their figures and MGR Raiden joins the ranks. This is reminiscent of the MGS3 Naked Snake and The Boss toys that were released a couple years ago. That Hot Toys flare shines thru all the work:

Hot Toys version of MGR Raiden is the 3rd iteration of MGR Raiden to date. Play Arts Kai was the first to have an incarnation of MGR Raiden with Revoltech following suit.

Personally I much prefer the Revoltech figure. Sure it’s slightly smaller in stature and has a more Manga/Anime feel to it, but it’s super clean and a lot more articulate. I also recently acquired pak MGS2 Raiden, which I heavily favor more than the PAK MGR toy. I just like the Skull Suit and extra head sculpt with the O2 apparatus better.

Now if Revoltech and Hot Toys actually went out of their way to create their own version of MGS2 Raiden then all bets are off!

Also worth noting, since the release of MGSV: Ground Zeroes and all, is that both Play Arts and Revoltech offer their very own Ground Zeroes Big Boss toys. Both look amazing and make me wish I won the lotto!

If Hot Toys pool their usual resources together and follow suit, they could hopefully make a Punished Snake toy to commemorate the launch of the 2nd half of MGSV in The Phantom Pain. I’ll be waiting on that with baited breath…
