Alvin’s Food Follies – Twilight Tuesdays

image

I just happened to get out of work late today and while walking to the station, I thought I heard some music playing in the distance from my corner of York St. and King St. in Toronto.  Hmmm?  Music this loud in this part of town?  Something’s up!

Jezza’s Film Follies – (‘Tri’-ing to be ‘Art’sy)

Con-Ed, an NY utility company. That’s all I choose to say, really.

As I mentioned in my last follies post, the Fujifilm Pro-400H was my 2nd to last expired film (read post here).  Well, this is the last of my expired film: Kodak’s 400 Tri-X professional black and white film.  This is also probably the least aged of my old film, only having expired around late 2013.  This film also gave me a (more…)

Alvin’s Film Follies (Part IX – Penny Tries Velvia and A Digital Fisheye?)

Over the past couple of weeks, I was camping and was also waiting for my first roll of slide film (Fujifilm Velvia 50) to come back from the folks at DC. Due to my ignorance, I didn’t know that it would take two weeks for the film to get processed.  “Oh well,” I said to myself,  “What to do in the meantime?”

Android Getting Stagefright?

We all know nothing is bulletproof.  Somewhere, someone will always want to break in and steal your stuff.  Especially now, we carry around  basically a digital ID card, our (smart)phones.  We store anything and everything on it.  We can think we’re safe, but, sadly, we’re just really fooling ourselves.

This dude found this bug found in pretty much all version of Android, and it can be triggered via SMS.  Nexus users will most probably get the patch the soonest.  Lollipop users are also the safest, but not 100% safe.

A patch will be great if it can be sent out swiftly, but with different brands, skins, carriers, it’s tough.  This is where, and I hate to admit it, Apple has a leg up on Google.  Anyway, don’t read any unknown text messages with video attachments.   Even if it’s from someone you know.

Thank you to Alvin for bringing this up.

Alvin’s Film Follies (Part VIII – Playing with Some “Gold”)

What an odd roll of film to discover in my son’s bedroom – Kodak Gold 200?!  I found this odd because:

  1. It is ASA 200.  I’m used to seeing and using either 100 or 400 consumer films.  I guess 100 speed doesn’t exist for consumers anymore…
  2. It is a Kodak consumer film that I don’t normally use (as you may know that I normally used Fujifilm in the past),
  3. I don’t recall buying this film for my son.
  4. It was in a 3-pack.

Galaxy S6 Booting Up

So it’s been a little over a month with my (then new) Samsung Galaxy S6 from Rogers.  Since my purchase of this white, 64 GB model, I have gotten a simple Griffin bumper cover for it.  The “honeymoon” is over and I’m taking some time here to share my thoughts on the device, so far.
