New rig -update-

Well, I finally sorted out my Windows 8 mess, and I am finally up and running, and slowly start re-installing programs and what not.  That should take another week or so.  So far, I am loving it.  The system is nice and quick, and as we speak, I am downloading and installing Metro2033 from my Steam, as well as Star Wars: The Old Republic to see what this system can do.  Sure it’s not exactly the latest games out there, but at least I’ll know what’s what, and see what I need to fix, tweak, or what not.  I do know my current video card, an AMD Radeon HD 5xxxx series card (XFX ONE +Edition) is quite old.  I still need to get a new case, and sort out my other HDD‘s.  I most probably will get a 2 TB HDD for storage and programs.

As far as Windows 8 goes, it’s nice and shiny, and so far I like the new things they have added (Metro UI).  I still need to dive deeper into it, and see what other goodies they have.  I will keep you guys updated for sure.

And I do have some ideas to implement in terms of this site.  This will be an exciting year for sure.

Update: Metro 2033 played pretty crappy, and it’s a clear indication I need a new video card.  It was very choppy at best, not slide show bad, but unplayable bad.  Company of Heroes played very well.  SWTOR, well, I still can’t install it.

Happy New Year!

Hello everyone, hope everyone’s year is getting off to a good start. Apologies for the lack of posting, but I am currently in between desktop computers. I just currently retired my old and trusty core2quad powered set up due to random reboots, and well, problems that I just can’t be bothered with. It also gave me that nudge to finally upgrade my aging system, which I had been planning on for a while. In any case I am now rocking a 3rd gen Intel i5 quad core processor, 16GB of DDR3 RAM, and a 180 GB Intel SSD on an ASRock Motherboard running the Inel z77 chipset. I am still trying to install Windows 8, and it’s a bit more involved than how XP was. (at least the whole upgrade process)

Hopefully it will get sorted soon. I am also watching the Conan remake, it’s freakin’ bloody.

IT’S BACK!

Welcome back, we dearly missed you, our precious, rugged ice hockey.

The NHL season is back on, after a strenuous lock out and immense pain in the hearts of hockey fans in North America.

I’d just woken up when I read on Twitter that the NHLPA and Bettman had come to an agreement.

(I must’ve woken up my whole house from my scream of happiness…)

As of writing this post, I texted The Big Cheese that hockey is back. When he replies, I’ll let you know his thoughts. Or I’ll pry for him to make a reaction post as well.

HOCKEY IS BACK MY FRIENDS

End: 2012.

Guys, we did it.

We survived 2012, and we get to live the rest of our lives.

I think I’ll take the time to actually run through a list of things I accomplished this year. Trust me, it’ll be a short list.

  • Watched the Doctor Who revamp in completion and am up to date with the show at Series 7 part 2
  • Watched both series of the miniseries BBC Masterpiece: Sherlock and am actually not confused but awaiting the next series
  • Opened my ears to more musical genres
  • Hit 6 ft in height
  • Made the decision to strive for art as a career
  • Live without the past.

I can’t stress enough that 2012 may have been the most unexciting year in my life, but it really is the year that I felt most human. Most vulnerable and curious and obviously the year I felt most mature.

I’m glad to have been able to share my musical tastes with you, our audience. I hope to continue to update you of my Earworms and just things I find interesting.

Happy New Year, everyone!

Earworm: “Novacane” by Frank Ocean

Ah, the last Earworm of 2012. I’ve featured Frank Ocean on our Earworm category once before, and I definitely have to feature the sensational artist once more. His music changed my ears forever.

Because of Frank, I was able to remind myself that listening to music is not limited to one genre.

All kinds of music are supposed to be enjoyed. It’s entertainment.

Novacane is one of the Odd Future member’s biggest hits, and it came off of his nostalgia,ULTRA. EP.

I’ve loved this song for the longest time, it’s cracked my top 10 list of favorite songs (and if you think that’s a hint to me posting an Earworm Top 10, you’re a genius. Unless you realized as soon as I said it).

Nevertheless, here, I present to you all, the last Earworm of 2012. Novacane by Frank Ocean.

Blake Griffin Kia Optima Time Travel back to 1999 Commercial

Honestly one of the best commercials I’ve seen in a long long while. NBA All-star Blake Griffin has swag, and with his Clippers on a 17 game tear, I definitely needed to share this with you guys. His Clippers join elite company by being only the third team in NBA history to have a 16-0 month, the other two teams being the early 70s LA Lakers and the mid 90s San Antonio Spurs.

My Challenge.

As 2012 comes to a close, people are starting to bring out their inevitably never-to-be-achieved New Year’s Resolutions.

I decided, screw resolutions. I challenged a couple of my friends to a friendly competition.

We’d been discussing for a bit about working out at home, not having access to gym memberships.

The challenge given? Just improve your overall health. Eat right, work out, and be happy. Losing weight is the aim, getting and staying fit is the final hope.

What are your resolutions/challenges for the New Year? Let us know!

Extreme Couponing…..

So, this is the first time I am watching this show on TLC, and it’s pretty crazy. It’s pretty much a full time job.
I am thinking how hard it is to really get into it, like if I tried to do it for lets say a month.

Challenge Accepted?

I am not sure if I would ever want a stockpile though, but for what I pay for a random trip to the supermarket, they get like 3,287 items for like $6.00, it’s totally insane.

I don’t think I have the patience to do this though. They have lists, pre-calculations, and what ever else it is needed.
This is really insane. if anything else, it’s a good laugh to watch if you have nothing else better to do.

Update: The last segment they did, the stored actually owed the person some money…

Playstation 2 ends production

I still remember it clearly, I just had graduated college, and about to take on the world, and to celebrate, I traded in my N64 Donkey Kong Edition (it was green, and I should have kept it), my PSone, and a slew of games to get a shiny newly released PS2. Walking home from what was then called Electronics Boutique (Game Stop to all of you young uns), I was ecstatic, and could not wait to dive right in and experience the ‘Next’ Generation in gaming. Thinking back now, I can’t even remember what my first game was. I do remember playing Zone of Enders endlessly with my cousins, as well as Twisted Metal Black (the end credits with the Rolling Stones – Paint it Black was awesome, and will always be forever be associated with that game and the PS2 with me). And we also did some damage with Gran Turismo 3, which, to me was totally jaw dropping in the graphics department, and probably was the first game to me, to blur virtual and reality, in terms of looks.

I have played many games on that trusty big black brick, heck, I still have the majority in my basement (along with my PS2), and that system has served countless hours of gaming fun, from the Gran TUrismo‘s, the Madden’s, the Metal Gears, and The DDR’s, yes Dance Dance Revolution. I have so many fond memories playing my PS2, but somehow, even with all those great games, it still does not hold a candle in my heart as the SNES did. I have better gaming memories in the 8 and 16 bit era, than that of the first 2 Playstations. But I digress.

My PS2 hasn’t been touched since I bought a PS3, and I still purchased games for it about a little over a year ago, which I had meant to play, since the newer PS3’s aren’t backwards compatible.
I might just dust off my PS2, and be nostalgic for a bit, and relive some of those games. To date, I think I have over 100 or so PS2 games, and I might just do some retro recollections here.

Anyway, here’s to the PS2, you have given all of us some great memories in the past decade.

Here’s some video’s for your viewing pleasure.

Earworm: Locked Outta Heaven – Bruno Mars

This bloody song has been in essence an earworm since it started playing in the airwaves.  I’m not a big fan of Mr. Bruno Mars, and the fact that this song is stuck in my head bothers me.

I do admit it is quite catchy, but UNGH!
