Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon First Impressions

Even the title screen is so 80's themed

Even the title screen is so 80’s themed

When I was first told about this game by B-Money, I got totally excited, and now, the game finally dropped on April 30th. on PSS for $15.00, and XBLA for 1200 MP.  (see my original post https://justwroteablog.com/2013/04/16/far-cry-3-blood-dragon-dlc/).  I finally was able to get my hands on it earlier today, and I just finished up playing the first 2 levels.  All I have to say is, it’s cheesy.  So cheesy, it’s amazing.  It’s a very weird sensation, seeing 8-bit style graphics on the cut scenes, (imagine NES)  and yet, I’m hearing 80’s style post apocalyptic movie dialog and music.  I did some capturing, but it’s a tad late, so I will divulge more info and some footage and screens tomorrow. (or in this case later).

There is a Demo available on the PlayStation Store if you are weary about spending the $15.00 on it.  How can you go wrong though.  It is based off of Far Cry 3 (at least the game engine), and it’s made by the same people.  I’ve bought games that were less money, and were not as good.  If anything, get it for the cheese factor.  Right from the get go, it’s entertaining.  More soon on this!

Load screens are hilarious too. It's these little things that really separate a good game from a great game.

A trio of new GTA V trailers.

Yeah, it’s been a while since I actually posted something.  Long story, won’t go into it.  I have a few drafts pending, but I just can’t get in the time to finish anything at the moment.  I will make it up soon.

Anyway, I will leave you with three new released trailers for the upcoming fifth installment of Grand Theft Auto.  Enjoy (I know I did.  I cannot wait for this game.)

Hideo Kojima Is A FOODIE

20130424-112857.jpg

[WARNING: if you haven’t had your first meal of the day and are deathly susceptible to hunger pangs I suggest you turn away as the following content could render you Hungry-As-Hell. You’ve been warned!]

Hideo Kojima and his seminal series, Metal Gear Solid have been around for 25 years. Since 1987 Kojima has been redefining the franchise with every iteration and fans clamor for MOAR. But as much as the fans can’t get enough of the series, Kojima can’t seem to have enough to eat. So much so that he posts about his eating habits as much as he updates us on the current status of upcoming games. Here are just some of his more recent consumption endeavors:

Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection is a Go!

20130422-211113.jpg

Well it looks like the rumors of an MGS Legacy Collection that a Korean site announced proved true. Apparently this collection will be released on PS3 and will include: Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3 (also includes the first two games, Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake), Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions and Metal Gear Solid 4. Also included are two Metal Gear Solid Digital Graphic Novel by Ashley Wood. So you can play the MGS Saga in order of release, chronology, or backwards. Though I’d suggest going in the order of release as every iteration updates their graphics as well as control scheme so by the time you get to MGS4 and PW the controls will be more westernized. The release date is roughly sometime this June so till then we can all just drool over this awesome poster below.

Today’s games re-imagined…

..Kinda.  I cam across this from another friends FaceSpace page, and thought it was quite interesting.  What if the game’s we played today were done back in the 8 and 16 bit era.  Wait, scratch that, they were done back then but with different names, and well, with the limited tech, different perspectives.  As a long time gamer, I can’t help but see this parallel.  It also makes me excited at how much better it will be in the future.  I was blown away when I first played Gran Turismo 3 for the PS2, and now, I still get constantly blown away by the games that come out.  Let’s just hope no one ruins it for us, and gives us craptastic titles, with this current head hunt on violence in video games.  Time will tell.

A trio of awesomeness – Nintendo announces some 3DS titles. (long over due sequels)

I wont even say much about these titles.  They are made by Nintendo using their A-List protagonists, and when Nintendo does that, it’s usually most probably going to be awesome.  I might as well just hand over some cash to them now, cause these are must get titles.  Finally something new to play on my 3DS.  I think with these 3 upcoming titles, I would’ve picked up one, but Fire Emblem is awesome in it’s own right. Now, GIVE US ADVANCED WARS!!!

MGS: The Evolution Of The Cardboard Box

[MGS, or rather, Metal Gear Solid, is a video game series created by Hideo Kojima that was conceived in 1987, when it was only called Metal Gear. The series has been around for 25 years now and as a big fan I’ve only known about them and played the games for less than a decade. That said, I’ve seen the evolution of the series and have grown to love it even more. One way I choose to express this is to write about some of these changes in the form of ‘MGS: The Evolution Of.” Whether you’re a fan or not I hope you enjoy.]

The cardboard box to many people is just an ordinary brown object folded in specific places to which, when each corner comes together, forms a 3-dimensional object in the form of a cube or rectangle. A cardboard box usually sits open side up and can be filled with objects, typically for transportation as a parcel or to just store needful things. In the Metal Gear world, it’s used upside down and is an ideal place to hide or take cover so as to avoid detection from ones enemies while trying to infiltrate certain areas, be they buildings, ships, or even thick jungle locales.

One-Eyed Snake

20130417-150232.jpg

Looks like Revoltech is taking their Naked Snake 131 figure a step higher in the articulation ladder. Not only will this Snake be able to take on multiple poses, but he will also be able to articulate his eye, as the photo below points out. It’s reminiscent of the Hot Toys Version of the current iteration of Batman embodied by Christian Bale, whose head sculpt has fully articulated eyes as well. I can’t read Japanese so I don’t have any idea how much the eye can move, but looks cool nonetheless.

Hopefully I can snag one for myself so I can do a review on it.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon (DLC)

Even the poster is done 80's style

Even the poster is done 80’s style

So a friend of mine, let’s call him B-Money, asked me if I had played Far Cry 3.  My response was a simple no.  Even though it’s a good game, it was never really on my short list, and I have been sort of staying away from sandbox titles as of late.  Well anyway, B-Money started telling me about the new DLC for it, and well, after the conversation, it is now on my short list, at least the DLC.  Immediately, after I turned on my PC, went to BING, typed in Google, then proceeded to search for Blood Dragon, and just as what B-Money had said, it’s totally over the top, and totally themed after those 80’s cyber cartoons I grew up watching, music, sound effects and all.   (more…)

Game Shop – Thrift Shop Parody

We love Macklmore and Ryan Lewis‘ song Thrift Shop, heck, Patrick brought it to our attention well before it started being overplayed in the air waves.  Anyway, this particular parody is geared towards gamers, and it’s pretty funny.  Love all the references they threw in there.  This was made by IGN, and it has some cameo’s from other You-Tubers.
