Night Runners

Disney Marathoners pounding away the miles at a desserted Walt Disney World. I spot them as we speed by in the monorail. A quick but difficult shot, hardly any light, lots of movement, but I managed to keep it steady enough to make the shot half intesting. This is merely the beginning of their journey, as well as mine.

Capping off our epic dinner at Morimoto’s was this epic dessert. At the time I was already in a food coma-bliss, and I honestly don’t remember the details of this delicious delicacy aside from the fact that it is epic.

Shot during my first month of owning the D700, and well, at a time where my hours were cut to 4 day’s every other week , hence giving me the opportunity to go out and shoot. I mostly ended up NY’s Central Park.

This particular one, I happen to catch a man preparing to play his portable piano.  It wasn’t a keyboard, bit it was some sort of piano.  I thought it would be a great shot to catch his silhouette, and use the rest of the park outside the arches as the backdrop.  I don’t know, maybe now I might do it a little different.

Quite surprised I was able to hand hold this and get a fairly sharp shot.
it’s my old VW Rabbit’s dash, and I revved up the engine on the end of the exposure to get that trail on the tachometer needle.

One of my early shots using my then brand new Nikon D700.

This was sort of an ad I did for a friend of a friend that owned a bakery. We did an impromtpu shoot of her cakes and what not, some of it ended up in their website. I wasn’t commisioned to do the ad, but I thought it would’ve been fun anyway, and this particular picture was one of my favorites from that shoot.

Sadly, the product itself is not edible, as it was simply made to look pretty.

I love macro photography, not so much as taking close up of bugs, and other tiny objects, which, don’t get me wrong, I also love to do, but, taking photos of normal sized things, but much much closer.

Like today’s RFPD.

One of my favorite spots to eat at in NYC’s Chinatown. It’s by no way means a fancy place. You have to walk down a set of steps to enter, and it’s not that pretty on the inside. Very basic decor of chairs and tables, but, it’s the food that count’s, and they do have some delectable selections.

My personal favorite, the salted fried squid, salt fried pork chop, snails, and young chow fried rice. The lemon fried chicken is freakin’ awesome too.

Anthony Bourdain also likes this place, he featured it on his show ‘No Reservations’, I think saying that it’s one of the few old school traditional places that’s still around.

In any case, it’s a must place to visit when you are in NYC.

A few first’s for this RFPD.  It’s the first entry that I shot this year, first that is also the most viewed from my Flickr Photostream, and the first flower shot with my new to me Nikkor 50mm f/1.4. (picked it up this past Friday).

This was shot at Cheesecake’s house, in their backyard.  Not that crazy about it, but I really was just playing around with my new to me lens.  I have shot with the fast fifty before, but, this one, I call my own, and it just feels different.  It’s one of my favorite lenses really, and I am so glad to have it finally in my bag.  Hopefully I can get to shoot more with it soon.

I might do some more post-editing on this one.  I’ll make sure to post it up when I do.

This is another personal favorite from 2009. I was on my way to meet a buddy at Hooters in NYC coming in from a photo shoot in Connecticut. I was stuck at a light about 2 blocks away, and in NYC, that’s pretty much a traffic jam anywhere else.

Anyway, as I crept up, I saw a crowd forming maybe 3 car lenghts, and they were all taking photos. When I finally crawled my way around them, I saw this beautiful formation of clouds, which I later learned was Mammatus. The sun was setting also, so it gave this nice orange hue to it.

I had my camera packed, no lens attached. Luckily it was in the front passenger seat, so I quickly opened my bag, grabbed my D700 body, and screwed in my Nikkor 24mm. I quickly set my camera to what may be a good exporsure, metered real quickly, I was off by +1 stop, so I quickly adjust, and snapped off a few frames. I re-set to -1.5 stops and fired a few more.

When I finally got to my destination, I quickly reviewed my shots, and was satisfied with them. Later on, in Lightroom, the best shot turned out to be the very first frame I took.

This was one of those moments where your experience just really kicks in. I had no time really to get a shot off properly, as just after firing my first set of shots, the light turned green, and soon there after we were moving. I came walked back after I parked my car, but the sun already set too low, and the colours were not as vivid as it was no more than 5 minutes prior.
