Alvin’s Film Follies (Part II – Ilford Delta Film and The INSANE Road Trip)

The I-80 in Wyoming after a Storm

After coming away fresh from Jon’s Ilford PanF 50 challenge, I was itching to find a really nice go-to, everyday, black and white film.  Don’t get me wrong – PanF is a great film, but I thought that it needed special handling just because of its lower ISO.  Because of this, I wanted my film to have more of an ability handle a “run and gun” shot since I commute to and from work. What can I try out next?  Enter Ilford’s Delta 100 film.

'What the hell are you?'

‘What the hell are you?’

As our newest editor stated here, I issued a challenge to him (and myself really) to do a film shoot out.  We both have Nikon film cameras that were collecting dust, and we were getting back into the whole film thing.

For a while we’ve shot film here and there since moving on to digital – both of us started photography when digital wasn’t even a thing yet.  (I just wanted to get that out of the way so this makes us non-hipsters LoL.) So during one of our Hangout sessions (Google Hangouts – since I’m in NYC and Alvin’s in GTA) (more…)

Hey, no one’s perfect!  Here are some of the shots from my roll of PanF that could be filed under G (or were precariously close to it.)

A couple months ago, my buddy Jon issued a challenge: Shoot a single roll of Ilford PanF with a Nikon SLR (in my case, a F90x) and a 50mm lens (AF Nikkor 50/1.8 D), using only manual settings.  We were free to choose who would develop the film and scan it.  (more…)

RANDOM FLICKR PHOTO OF THE DAY – May 22, 2014

I just shot this earlier tonight, coming home from a shoot.  The Empire State Building was framed nicely, and was barely peeking out from the fog.

This is an oldy, but quite the goody. I found this bug or beetle sitting lifeless on our floor leading out to the deck. Thought before I discarded it, I should take few photos.

It’s been a while since I did one of these. I have been slacking a lot on so many things, this blog included. Just too much ‘life’ stuff going on, but hopefully it will get settled soon enough.
But anyway, I give you this photo I took the other day with my HTC One M8, taken during my lunch hour. I tell you I am loving this phone so much. It’s so nice seeing beautiful colours again.

Return of the Random Photo of the Day

I blindly chose a picture from my computer’s photo library. Here’s what I chose.

This shot was taken by me, Cheesecake, in the Big Cheese’s own back yard with his Pentax K20d.

End: 2012.

Guys, we did it.

We survived 2012, and we get to live the rest of our lives.

I think I’ll take the time to actually run through a list of things I accomplished this year. Trust me, it’ll be a short list.

  • Watched the Doctor Who revamp in completion and am up to date with the show at Series 7 part 2
  • Watched both series of the miniseries BBC Masterpiece: Sherlock and am actually not confused but awaiting the next series
  • Opened my ears to more musical genres
  • Hit 6 ft in height
  • Made the decision to strive for art as a career
  • Live without the past.

I can’t stress enough that 2012 may have been the most unexciting year in my life, but it really is the year that I felt most human. Most vulnerable and curious and obviously the year I felt most mature.

I’m glad to have been able to share my musical tastes with you, our audience. I hope to continue to update you of my Earworms and just things I find interesting.

Happy New Year, everyone!

Pork, the other white meat.  It’s has to me at least a very transparent taste, and it absorbs flavour like no other.  This is pretty much über bacon, pork belly, so good, so tasty so deliciously bad for you.

This was one of our entrees this past thanksgiving, and it was oh-so-delicious.  Perfect compliment to the turkey.
