Burn me at the stake for this one, boys and girls.

Earworm: Sexy Back – Justin Timberlake
I wasn’t much of a JT fan back in the day, but slowly and surely, his music remained popular enough to be replayed on the radio and satellite radio. Not only does he get airtime, but he was getting screen presence, with a few movies here and there, and his frequent guest spots on SNL. Hearing his music throughout the years just kinda sank in my consciousnesses, and I slowly transformed from being a hater to being a fan. He is simply an amazing performer, not just singing, but, his on screen presence is great. He is this era’s Frank Sinatra (ok, not quite there yet, but, he is becoming a legend in his own right). Even his new song, ‘Suit and Tie‘, when I first heard it, I was like, “WTF?!”, then it grew on me, and I hum it a lot, maybe because it does get a lot of play on commercials also, but, it’s not like Bruno, or the Lady Gaga’s. It does not get over killed, and his song’s are just that much better.
Sexy Back remains my favorite track of his. Can’t quite figure out why, but it is.
[youtube http://youtu.be/Fz1BXF7bVpM]Here’s a barbershop quartet version he did with Jimmy Fallon
[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UD8tGWIqA-c]and the SNL Digital Short Trilogy that is just hilarious.
Earworm: Istanbul (Not Constantinople) – Milan & Phoenix
I recently heard this on SiriusXM recently, I can’t believe this was covered. I am so glad that Milan & Phoenix just did their own spin on it, and not ruin the song. (Unlike Pitbull and Christina Aguilera’s “Feel This Moment” which sample’s what could arguably be one of the 80’s best songs, A-Ha‘s Take On Me, but that’s another topic for another time). I enjoy this remake, and it’s a nice break from the daily drudgery of today’s pop music. I first heard this song back in the 90’s from Loony Tunes. I later found out it was a song by They Might Be Giants. (they also did a bit for another TMBG song, Triangle Man). It’s such a fun song, and i’ve been humming it on and off. The video is fun too, playing on the old silent films. Enjoy the video, as well as the Loony Tunes version.

Top 30 Favorite Songs of All Time: #24 “By My Side” by David Choi
Okay, if you’ve been following along with my Earworm posts since the beginning, you’ll know that this was the song I first featured on my Earworms, click https://justwroteablog.com/2012/08/16/earworm-by-my-side-by-david-choi/ to get the down low.
The music video for this ballad was produced and directed by my favorite independent production company, WongFu Productions (see their work http://wongfuproductions.com/).
This isn’t one of those crappy “love” songs that are on radio circulations.
Enjoy the video.
Top 30 Songs of All Time: #26 “Heartstrings” by Mitchell Grey
A young band, a great band. You guys that have been following my posts in particular should know from my Earworms that I like to listen to many, many, many different things.
This band was introduced to me by the same YouTube singer that introduced me to the John Mayer song I posted about yesterday. She did a cover with Mitchell Grey, and I loved the guy’s voice so much.
The song is about letting go of past relationships, something I believe people have trouble with.
The music video to this song is really special to me. The urban scenes were shot in my old stomping grounds of Elmhurst; Queens NYC, New York. The red awning? Top Line Supermarket. The park? Broadway park. I’d know the look of those apartment bricks if my eyes were closed. *AFTERTHOUGHT: I FREAKING HATE THE BOYFRIEND’S HAIR. THE HELL IS THAT RAT SHIT?*
Earworm: “Eyes Like Sky” by Frank Ocean
Ah, an unreleased song. Songs that artists maybe intended to place on a prior EP or LP and are/were maybe holding it off till the next album… I love them. I also love being one of the first of the inevitable hundreds of thousands or millions to listen to it.
I follow a blog all about Frank Ocean on tumblr, and late this weekend, I happened to have been scrolling through my dash and stumbled onto this unreleased gem. I downloaded the song, and went to sleep. Little had I known that I’d even heard it before Billboard had heard it! When I woke up, Billboard hadn’t posted anything about the leaked song, and about an hour after I’d awoken, Billboard posted about it.
Anyway, the song. I love it. It reminds me of a lot of his older work (The Lonny Breaux Collection, a conglomerate of songs with a rather unique sound), I wouldn’t be surprised if this were one of the songs that shouldn’t have been a part of the collection but never made it. Maybe it was even a snub from Channel Orange; you never know, because unless you’re the artist or the producer, you truly never know.
Actually, it makes more sense for the song to be a snub from Channel Orange that was actually a part of his Channel Orange Sessions. Most people tend to believe that, actually.
Apologies in advance if you take a listen and the song won’t play; UMG has gone on a copyright tear and actually has taken down several of the videos that had the song. Oh well. This is a good, unaltered version for you all:
Earworm: My Life – .50 Cent Gt. Eminem & Adam Levine
I first the heard Eminem‘s distinct rap as I was half listening to the radio a few day’s ago. I looked at the song title on my SiriusXM and I saw ‘ My Life – .50 Cent, Eminem, Adam Levine. I was taken aback for a second, and had to rewind the song. Now after listening to it a few times since, at first I was sort of disappointed with Fitty’s opening rap, but then he did pick it up in his second one. Em’s is as alway’s good, and I guess, it’s not so weird with Maroon 5‘s Adam Levine doing the hook, as Eminem has done collaborations with Taylor Swift and Dido in the past. All in all is a good song, and it’s nice to see .50 back.

Earworm: “Go Your Own Way” by Fleetwood Mac
Top Gear series 19 episode 2 featured in their ‘Star in a Reasonably Priced Car‘ drummer and namesake of Fleetwood Mac, Mick Fleetwood.
During the interview, Jeremy talked about the success of the band and the history of their best selling album, Rumours. I never learned so much about the history of one album in such a short span of time.
A song that I’ve heard countless times before, Go Your Own Way, was mentioned, and it’s been stuck in my head ever since.
Here it is.
Earworm: “Now” by Paramore
Ah, good old Paramore. Although, this isn’t old Paramore. This is a different sound, and it’s a little reminiscent of early 2000’s pop-rock, like No Doubt.
Paramore’s Now is the first single off their new album Paramore, and it has been stuck in my head since I first listened to it last night. It’s actually a really good song. The lyrics have meaning, the guitar is crazy, and it doesn’t really hurt that I love Hayley Williams.
She can do no wrong, in my eyes. Except that crazy hairstyle she rocked in the music video for B.O.B’s Airplanes… That was… Interesting.
Anyway, here’s the audio released by FueledByRamen, hope you enjoy the song!
Upcoming this week (from Cheesecake)
With a lot less time due to midterm week, I have no been able to post as regularly as I’d have liked.
That’ll change starting tomorrow, as I have quite a few things in store.
Expect an in-depth review of a video game that has been infuriating The Big Cheese and I as of late, a few Earworms, and a personal rant about high school.
