It’s been a while since I posted an earworm, and I don’t know why, to break my earworm hiatus, I pick Ke$ha. I guess it’s just been stuck in my head for a while for unknown reasons. I’m not a big fan of hers, but it seems like I like her songs enough to actually listen to them. It’s a nice mainstream beat, so…..

Earworm – “History Repeating” – Propellerheads Ft. Dame Shirley Bassey
A phenomenal song. Seriously, just listen. Shirley’s voice, and the ‘Heads arrangement…EPIC.
This was also used in a Jaguar car ad, and I cannot seem to find it. if anyone knows of this, can you please post?
Earworm: Lost in the Echo by Linkin Park
Okay, a first for me, and more to come in the future.
This is my first Earworm post chronicling my favorite band of all time. I’d held back on writing about them, for their songs are literally always stuck in my head. I know the lyrics to all the songs off of their 5 albums, trust me. The Big Cheese can attest to this.
But this one is special. Although it isn’t the first song I heard off the album (it would’ve been “Burn it Down”), it, for me, marked the return of Mike’s rap, something that has been gone for a while. It reared its head here and there, but in “Lost in the Echo,” it became obvious clear that Mike Shinoda still has the rhythm and rhyme.
During an assembly for school, a video was shown. The title intro song? LOST IN THE ECHO. I damn near just got up out of my seat, walked on stage, and started singing it. Wish I had.
Oh, and the music video just came out, about a month ago. It released as an interactive video. You linked your Facebook account to the video and the characters interacted with you, using your photos as the memories that were “lost in the echo.”
Earworm: “Arms” – Christina Perri
This song I’ve always liked, but I never really paid attention to it until my boss kept asking who sings it. Finally, sometime earlier this week, he told us why this song was in his mind, one of his daughters had a dance recital, and they used this song. He said it was quite powerful, and these are 9 year olds that were doing it. Finally, got a hold of the song, and we played it at work, and I was able to listen to it in depth.
It is quite powerful, I love how it starts off all mellow, with a simple guitar strumming, then slowly an instrument gets added as the song progresses and suddenly the drum’s drop, and it’s just a great build up, and I actually felt my spine tingling. The video itself is quite entertaining, and very true to the song. I’ve felt like this at time, and, well, just enjoy it.
Earworm: “Canned Heat” – Jamiroquai
For some reason this song has been stuck in my head for a few days. I recently heard it on Sirius XM, and it sort of brought me back to one of my favorite movies of all time, Napoleon Dynamite. Jon Heder doing that dance to this song is just EPIC. JayKay also happens to be a big gear head and has made multiple appearances on one of my favorite TV shows of all time, Top Gear.
Anyway, the song is way trippy, as is the video. It’s just a joy to listen to, puts you in a sort of feel good mood. I don’t know, i’ve listened to it a few times over the past few days and it has made me feel a bit better.
And as an extra, Jon Heder’s EPIC performance from Napoleon Dynamite.
Earworm: “Pork and Beans” – Weezer
I don’t know how or why, but this song has been stuck in my head. I’ve been humming it for a while. The video is flippin awesome too. Takes a poke at everything on the intertubes.
Enjoy it!
I hope everyone had a fantabulous weekend.
Earworm: “Forever” – Chris Brown
A good buddy of mine is getting married today, (Congratulations to Dan and Julie!) and weddings, right now anyway, remind me of this one video I saw on you tube. Instead of the traditional entrance, the couple entered on Chris Brown’s Forever. Correction, the wedding party entered on Chris Brown’s Forever.
With the tremendous response to their wedding entrance, they have set up a website that points helping donations towards domestic violence. http://www.jkweddingdance.com/
And of course here’s the actual video for Forever.
Earworm: School week special – “Say You’ll Be There” Spice Girls
I was a sophomore in HS when I first found about the Spice Girls from my little cousin. She was going crazy about them, and had me search the interwebs when she came over for a visit. Back in the day, we had to dial up, and get amazing speeds of 28.8 Kbps. Imagine the speed at which we were to get info then. Anyway, I later found out one of my buddies in school also liked them, and i mean what’s not to like, 5 very attractive British girls, ’nuff said.
From then on in, I sort of followed them on and off, and with my buddy liking them more than I did, he’d just share his cd’s and gave me recordings on a cassette. (burning a cd wasn’t a household thing yet)
This song in particular reminds me of those days long gone by.
This would be my final entry into our school week special. Next week, Cartoon Themes!
Earworm: School week special – “O.P.P.” Naughty By Nature
I am down with O.P.P. even though you may not know me. Sorry couldn’t resist. I remember this song back in grade school. I didn’t get to listen to rap/hip-hop much back in those days, so I never really got appreciate it back then. Anywhoo, I just remember walking through the halls of my school back in 7th grade when this song came out. Not sure why, but I just does.
I just wish hip-hop was still this good. I find myself listening to more stuff from the 90’s and early 2000’s than the stuff they have out now. This song also, samples Jackson 5’s ABC, which in itself is a time-less classic, and I think to me anyway, this song too is a time-less classic.
Anyway, enjoy the good harmonies, and beats.
Earworm: School week special-“…Baby One More Time” Britney Spears
Continuing with our Earworm school week special, is a song I endlessly listened to while I was in college. At first I didn’t know who the hell Britney Spears was, and I didn’t really care much for the song whenever I heard it on the radio. But then, while getting ready for a late day class, I had on MTV, (or was it MTV2?) and they played the music video for …Baby One More Time. I was pretty much mesmerized from there on in, and my love affair (yes, I am confessing that I was a huge fan of Ms. Spears) for Britney Spears started. Can you blame me though? I mean the video starts off with her dressed up as a catholic school girl. I was a closet fan, always turning down the radio in the car whenever one of her songs came on, or just never really paying attention in public. Now, I really don’t care, even my co-worker Marky Mark admits to it, and we both were singing this very song when it came on SiriusXM’s 90’s on 9 station. She’s hot, and I am a man, do the math. LoL
Anyhow, this song really reminds me of my early days in college, sitting in my accounting classes, which was long and drawn out, and, well, thoughts of her and this song, and this video made some of those classes go by quicker.
By the way, my favorite part comes at around the 2:47 to 2:52. Those hip gyrations still melt me to this day. =)
