Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes night trailer (Xbox One)

Looks like another MGSV Ground Zeroes gameplay trailers is making the rounds this week. This version is gameplay from Xbox One and is actually gameplay footage from previous trailers that we’ve seen in weeks prior. This time Kojima‘s right hand man, Sean Eyestone, is narrating for us the viewers and giving us the rundown on the things gamers will he able to do in Ground Zeroes. A lot of the information that Eyestone is talking about has been covered in my previous articles an have been reiterated in past GZ demoes, but there are some interesting things I took note of in my bullet points: (more…)

Good Thing I Own An Xbox 360, Too…

So Kojima finally let the cat out of the bag about the MGSV Ground Zeroes exclusive content for Xbox and Xbox One. It centers on a mission, “Jamais Vu“, that players will be sent to, investigating unusual activity on a base (most likely Camp Omega). We can hear Kaz Miller in the trailer talk about “Body Snatchers” and events that are out of this world. But we won’t join Snake on this mission. Instead, Snake himself, appoints a familiar face to the MGS franchise, Raiden! Though, it’s not just Raiden, but MG Rising: Revengeance Raiden, with all his cyborg adornments.

In the trailer Snake presents Raiden with his signature HF Blade, but is also given what looks like an assault rifle, similar to the one Snake carries with him on his missions in previous Ground Zeroes gameplay trailers. This coincides with the gunplay that is demonstrated in the trailer.

[Look familiar?]

[The signature Melon that was used to demo the Zandatsu cutting mechanic in what was Metal Gear Solid: Rising, back when the project was still in KJP hands in 2010. That melon certainly got around.]

[Cyborg Raiden, in a FOX Engine makeover.]

Observe, if you will, the trailer below:

I have to say, this exclusive Xbox content is a few levels better that what Playstation owners are getting. You get MGR Raiden dressed up with Kojima’s proprietary FOX Engine. You get MGR Raiden with MGS style gunplay, not that dinky shooting mechanic that Rising Revengeance is stuck with. You get to run around in a cool sounding mission that deals with FRIGGIN BODY SNATCHERS! For those familiar with Hideo Kojima’s body of work, he’s worked on a cult classic game called Snatcher, which is an amalgamation of movies like Blade Runner, Terminator, and Invasion Of The Body Snatchers. The Jamais Vu mission seems like a loose take on some of Snatcher’s elements and storyline.

What do PS3/4 users get? A blockhead running around a base trying to save a guy (Donald Anderson/Sigint) who we’ve already met in at least 3 prior games. Nothing really new at all. Well, my initial disappointment went from WTF to Meh, anyway. I own both current (last) gen consoles so I’ll be picking up the 360 version of Ground Zeroes anyway. Honestly though, all this exclusivity makes things silly. Kojima is already producing MGS games for BOTH systems. Why break up the continuity with “exclusive content”? IMO Kojima’s seminal series would benefit more if BOTH the Deja Vu mission (PS3/4) and the newly announced Jamais Vu mission (360/One) were on BOTH consoles from the beginning. It would certainly benefit MGS fans, and gamers in general. In each case, those who only own one console will be alienated and lose out on the gaming experience from lack of content. Who knows? Maybe these two missions will turn up as DLC for one another.

It’s time for Jack… TO SNATCH SOME BODIES!

VGX Awards 2013 (Update)

So the VGX Awards commenced last night. Gameplays were shown and more games were announced. You can watch the 3+ hour event up top or check out another version in the source like below.

UPDATE 2:

It looks like YouTube decided to take down the clip I provided above so I did a little bit of digging and found another source, DailyMotion, with the same footage. Enjoy.

UPDATE:

Joel McHale co hosted with Geoff Keighley of Spike TV. McHale is hilarious! At one point they were interviewing Gearbox and Telltale devs and he was making random dry humor comments (as he always does) that Geoff was gritting his teeth thru Effectively making Geoff look kind of dull and boring. I could visibly see Geoff being pissed off at every sentence Joel was saying. This was probably because McHale didn’t seem to take the VGX as seriously as Keighley did, thereby invoking a slight tone of displeasure from him. Brownie points! Another interview had the makeshift duo chatting up two individuals involved with the rebooted Tomb Raider, one dev and more importantly Camilla Luddington. More snarky humor and lots of Joel/Cammy (Joel’s new pet name for Lara’s voice actor) chemistry made Geoff look like a third wheel. Bonus!

I’ll say this though; adding McHale as a co host to VGX undercuts the point of even talking about the relevance of video games in the first place. He’s a comedian dripping with sarcasm so there’s nothing much more to expect. Might as well have David Blaine co host and pull a PS3 out of a rabbit’s ass. They’re both not of the gaming world. But still, I’m a fan. So the inclusion of Joel McHale? Genius!!

I wanted to take a little time away from console gaming to focus a bit on the little friend in our pockets. No no, not that little friend. Get your minds out the gutter! My friends, I’m talking about some mobile gaming.

With the dawn of the next generation now becoming current gen, pushing the once-current to last gen, I thought it would be appropriate to talk about the game pads that accompany these new fangled toys of 2013 and beyond.

Walking Dead Gear Solid

20131130-123815.jpg

Whether or not you guys and gals have been keeping up, The Walking Dead AMC TV series is in its 4th season. There’ve been more zombies walkers than Rick and crew can shake their guns, katanas, and crossbows at. The funny thing though is, those cadavers on foot aren’t the only things our main characters have to worry about. It’s actually other living survivors of this pseudo apocalypse that they have to worry about. Because when the world ends, it’s everyone for themselves.

MGSV IRL! Sorta

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, which is a prologue to The Phantom Pain, is slated to come out in Spring 2014, with TPP to follow sometime later. But it seems semi related instances have been surfacing in the wild recently.

Honda has developed a device called Walking Assist. It’s an apparatus which apparently aids individuals with walking difficulties get by on their own two legs with a little nudge from said contraption. It’s purpose is to aid in the rehabilitation of those who have suffered from traumatic events such as a stroke or perhaps a car accident. (more…)

MGSV Ground Zeroes English Version of 2013 TGS Demo

Following PS4’s Launch Party on Spike TV last night, Konami today has just released an English version of the MGSV Ground Zeroes 2013 TGS Demo that’s as shown a few months ago. Kojima Production’s Sean Eyestone was narrating the familiar gameplay in English, pointing out all the bullet points of what can be done in Ground Zeroes. During gameplay we can hear Kaz Miller (Robert Atkin Downes) giving Snake mission directives via codec. In the section during Snake’s enemy interrogation we can hear Kiefer Sutherland say “Spit it out!” (more…)

Playstation 4 Unboxing.

I am like all over the place here.  I am trying to set up my PS4, whilst trying to upload a video, and put this post together.  Anyway, I have yet to play anything, as of right now, I cannot log into my PSN account.

For now watch me unbox Sony’s new system.

Seriously, Kojima?!

I waited all day in anticipation for what would be in store for Spike TV‘s PS4 Launch Night. I was hoping to see something really exciting, perhaps jaw dropping from Hideo Kojima‘s little presentation among all the others. Well, I guess I’ll still be waiting because whatever that was Wasn’t what I was expecting.

I was expecting to have my mind blown. Instead, what he treated us to was little more than a throwback to MGS1. His presentation showed an exclusive level in MGSV for PS4 called Deja Vu Mission. This is a PS4 only mission that lets us play as Classic Snake, aka the pixelated incarnation of Solid Snake from MGS1 during the PSX days.

20131115-004105.jpg

I was amused for 5 seconds but when I realized that THIS was the ONLY THING Kojima Was serving his fans tonight it left me confused and bit annoyed. Usually when Kojima makes announcements they’re pretty worth my while. This time around it left a bad taste in my mouth. This demo was little more than another nostalgic nod to the MGS fans. The thing is, it’s already been done. IN A WHOLE GAME. Which game, you ask? Metal. Gear. Solid. 4. Guns. Of. The. Patriots. That whole game was a tribute to fans. It was drowning in fan service. I enjoyed it. But I’m over it and its been 5 whole years! I thought somehow that perhaps this Deja Vu Mission would show Classic Snake all dressed up with the FOX Engine. NOPE. Same ole blocky mofo. This feels like a missed opportunity at some Real fan service. Kojima could have given ole Solid that next gen shine by actually creating him via FOX Engine specifically for this Mission. Shit, even MGS4 had Young Solid Snake face camo that Old Snake could put on along with Classic Snake face camo.
